Interview with the Parents’ Association of European School Saarland
We talked with Karin Calderon from the Parents’ Association of European School Saarland, who shared their experience with CAPEEA.

The European School Saarland is an international educational institution that opened its doors in September 2021. It was officially accredited in May 2022, becoming the first state European School. As such, it is open to all interested students, regardless of their background, and is strongly committed to multilingualism.
In the 2025/26 school year, the school will welcome approximately 355 students across 22 classes, ranging from Primary 1 (P1) to Secondary 4 (S4).
Language learning starts early and follows the European Curriculum of the European School System
- L1 (first language): German or English
- L2 (second language): German, English, or French
- L3 (third language): German, English, French, Spanish, or Italian
Below, the Parent Association of the European School of Saarland is sharing its experience with CAPEEA:
What has been your experience with CAPEEA?
It is a great, helpful association of parents who all pursue the same goal: to support the European schools with the best of their knowledge and judgement and thus to support the accredited European schools in providing the best education and experiences for their students/our children.
Why did you decide to join?
Our school is currently only in its fourth year, meaning we’re still a school under development with many opportunities and, at the same time, many questions.
I was hoping that by joining CAPEEA I would meet parents who would be able to answer most of those questions from experience, and I was not disappointed.
Furthermore, they also discuss topics that aren’t currently relevant to us (e.g., exchange semesters, BAC, etc.) but will become relevant in the future, thus enabling us to be better prepared for the future.
What benefits have you gained from being a member?
I have met many motivated parents from different European countries who are always willing to listen to questions and concerns and who also quickly welcome “newcomers” and value their opinions.
Are there any other insights you would like to share?
I was actually surprised at how professional CAPEEA seemed from our first online get together with Alexandra and Stefanie to find out if CAPEEA would be a great fit for us.
I can only advise anyone who gets the chance to join to do so.
