Innsbruck joins the (Accredited) European School System and more new AESs are on the way
The Accredited European School (AES) Tirol is Austria’s first European School and will be hosting the AESN Conference for the first time since the COVID-19 break. The previous AESN Conference took place in Manosque, France, in 2019. Innsbruck now welcomes this event, bringing together school stakeholders from 24 AESs all across Europe: School directors, teachers, pupils, parents and European School officials from Brussels and host countries .

Also in Vienna, the local government decided earlier this year to enhance the diversity of the city’s educational landscape by establishing a new Accredited European School. Different from Innsbruck the school will be built from scratch. It is expected to open in 2027, provided all goes according to plan. It will accommodate around 1,500 students once completed. Additional projects are in development, including future Accredited European Schools in Lisbon, Madrid, and Templin, located 75 km north of Berlin. The Templin site is set to become the first boarding school in the network of European Schools, with plans to open in 2029 in the restored buildings of the historic Joachimsthalsches Gymnasium.
